The Heartbeat of God: a sacred drum circle for all ages

John Philip Newell speaks of listening at the heart of God. Raimon Panikkar speaks of the rhythm of being. Thich Nhat Hahn speaks of sound that calls us back to our true home.

These metaphors evoke sacred drumming as a practice that helps us listen to what is always present, and to join in the flow of that Life. Drumming in community, we engage our bodies and minds in a unique - and even fun - way! In this retreat we’ll have opportunity to listen (to sound, to poetry, to silence); to learn a few simple drumbeats; to pray, share and play together; to join in an improvised drum circle. No prior experience is necessary, and all ages are welcome! There will also be free time in which you can choose to make your own instrument, to walk the labyrinth, and to enjoy the beautiful grounds.

The retreat is led by Daniel Brinson, minster of music at Trinity Episcopal Church in Charlottesville. Daniel is active as a choir director, organist, and pianist, and he is interested in the many ways music and spiritual practice intersect.
